Off The Chain

The Reasons Matters

Shelters across the country are filled to capacity! Adoptions and/or Foster parents are desperately needed! But, other than their behavior issues (specifically, nuisance behaviors such as digging or jumping); most shelter dogs are perfectly good dogs and will make the right family whole!  But, just like if you were to take a kid from the streets and take him to a royal ball, you couldn't expect that poor child to act appropriately or  even know what is NOT appropriate.  Shelter and Rescue dogs are the same.  The pup has to be taught which behaviors are or are not appropriate.

It's important to remember that these dogs may have come from difficult backgrounds and may not have learned appropriate behaviors. Just like a child taken from the streets and brought to a royal ball, shelter dogs need guidance to understand what is and isn't acceptable behavior. With patience and love, shelter dogs can become wonderful companions for any family.

Off The Chain’s Training Advantage

Using a combination of home-based fosters and a kennel facility, Off The Chain works closely with local municipal shelters and other rescues similar to OTC but have the same goals: to rescue, then socialize as many of those pets that are just trying to cope with their new reality. This helps them to overcome previous neglect, abandonment, malnourishment, or downright cruelty they may have experienced. Even when such severe circumstances haven't been the case, some suffer emotional decline in overcrowded, noisy shelters. Many require extensive socialization in a home to overcome their fears. OTC's environment is designed to provide exactly that kind of training and support.

A 2019 graduate of the Animal Behavior College, OTC's Director and primary trainer has over 30 years of experience working with dogs and cats. Using this experience, OTC is able to communicate with your pets and teach you how to communicate with them as well. Using operant conditioning as well as positive/negative reinforcement, you and your pet will develop the relationship you desire. OTC imparts these techniques with adopters to help ensure that the positive experience continues in the adoptive home once the animal leaves our care. Moreover, OTC's trainer remains available for consultation and home visits to address any problems that arise.

Although we specialize in behavior management of adopted or rescued pets, we want to help everyone develop their ideal relationships with their pets that they are seeking. We will help you all the way through the adoption process and thereafter to assist you and your new pet in the integration phase that comes when your new pet is trying to learn about its new environment. Even if you've had your pet for years, we want to help you to develop a better relationship with your pet. Remember, “Old Dogs” CAN learn new tricks and we will conform the training specifically for you and your pet. Like humans, every pet is different and dog training is an art.
